ST2456: Hydrogen TechGo: Driving Awareness Towards Hydrogen Energy Among The Youth

Ibrahim Bin Suriali Universiti Teknologi MARA

Malaysia's ambitious Hydrogen Economy and Technology Roadmap (HETR) envisions hydrogen as a cornerstone of the nation's sustainable energy future, targeting substantial GDP contributions and job creation by 2030 and beyond. However, a significant challenge to realizing this national vision is the prevailing low awareness and limited understanding of hydrogen energy among the general public, particularly the youth. This gap can hinder future adoption, workforce development, and public support for critical infrastructure. This project addresses this problem directly by presenting "Hydrogen TechGo," an innovative educational card game designed to make complex hydrogen energy concepts accessible, engaging, and exciting for teenagers. Our methodology followed an iterative design process, prioritizing both scientific accuracy and optimal gameplay. We meticulously identified key hydrogen concepts (production methods, applications, benefits) with defined learning objectives, ensuring their accuracy through rigorous verification by a qualified chemist. Comprehensive profiling of our target audience, teenagers, informed the development of game mechanics that translate these concepts into interactive challenges. Crucially, iterative prototyping and extensive playtesting with youth groups were conducted to refine game rules, content, and user experience, balancing educational depth with fun. "Hydrogen TechGo" is poised to significantly impact youth engagement by demystifying hydrogen energy, fostering early scientific literacy, and cultivating a generation supportive of Malaysia's energy transition. The game's interactive nature promises enhanced knowledge retention and a positive shift in attitudes towards clean energy. Furthermore, "Hydrogen TechGo" possesses strong commercialization potential as an educational tool for schools, science centers, and homes, offering a scalable and engaging solution to broaden public understanding of Malaysia's hydrogen future, thereby accelerating the HETR's success.ype Your Abstract Here!
