3MT1199: CyberEd: AR Gamification For Cybersecurity Education

The rapid evolution of digital threats has exposed a significant gap in cybersecurity education, where traditional learning remains overly theoretical, passive, and disengaging for students. To address this, CyberEd was developed as an innovative Android-based application that integrates Augmented Reality (AR) and gamification to transform cybersecurity from abstract jargon into a tangible, immersive experience. Built through a process of requirement identification, UI/UX design, and iterative prototyping, CyberEd visualizes complex concepts like firewalls and malware as 3D virtual objects, making them accessible to non-IT students. By incorporating a gamified "defense wave" logic, the application shifts learning from passive reading to active problem-solving, where users must strategically deploy defense tools to mitigate simulated attacks. Usability testing indicates that CyberEd’s combination of AR-driven visualization and reward-based challenges significantly improves knowledge retention and practical understanding compared to conventional methods, effectively bridging the divide between theory and real-world digital defense application.
