The AI-Enhanced Sleep Alert System is an intelligent safety device developed by students from SMK Sultan Badlishah to prevent road accidents caused by driver fatigue. This system uses facial recognition powered by AI to monitor signs of drowsiness—such as eye closure, yawning, and head nodding—in real-time.
When signs of sleepiness are detected, the system sends a signal to an ESP32 microcontroller, triggering a buzzer alert to immediately wake the driver. The core components include a webcam, laptop (or Raspberry Pi), ESP32, and buzzer module. The software uses Python and OpenCV for facial analysis and can optionally log data for future review.
Unlike traditional sleep alert systems that depend on vehicle movement and are only available in high-end cars, our solution is affordable, portable, and compatible with any vehicle. With a total cost of RM 500 and a selling price of RM 850, this system is designed for mass adoption across the transportation sector.
This project aims to improve road safety by giving real-time alerts to drowsy drivers and promoting widespread use through partnerships with transport companies and government bodies. It’s simple, effective, and built to save lives.
