Mercury spills in school labs are toxic, and commercial Hazmat kits are too expensive. This project develops RaksaSA, an affordable emergency kit made from 100% recycled waste. It features the 'ZinC-Mag Scraper' using recycled rigid cardboard coated with zinc powder, and an 'Eco-Sorbent' powder from dried banana peels. Based on chemical amalgamation and organic adsorption theories, this ongoing prototype development aims to safely trap liquid metal and absorb harmful vapors. RaksaSA offers a zero-cost, eco-friendly, and effective chemical safety solution, reducing lab emergency cleanup costs for schools nationwide."
