SARA NISA' BINTI FAKARUDIN LABUAN INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL
Our initial survey revealed that 71.8% of secondary students struggle with science, particularly the Periodic Table, with 75.2% finding it difficult to understand. Inspired by Dr. Teoh Tek Jiun’s insights on the challenge of memorising element names, symbols, atomic numbers, and weights, we created Periodic Pair Up (PPU)—an innovative tool that uses mental imagery and familiar items to help students connect with the Periodic Table. Pre-test results showed most students scored below 40%, but after using PPU, their understanding improved significantly, and they enjoyed the learning process. We hope to adapt PPU for other subjects in the future.
