Word problems in financial mathematics frequently challenge diploma students due to language barriers rather than algebraic difficulties. In UiTM's MAT112 course, students often misinterpret situational exam keywords, leading to incorrect variable assignments. To resolve this, Visual Semantic Mapping (VSM) introduces a chronological timeline framework spanning Chapters 1 through 4. By anchoring key terms directly to specific timeline milestones (Note Date, Discount Date, and Maturity Date). This innovation simplifies semantic decoding. VSM drastically reduces cognitive load, prevents common procedural traps, and improves problem-solving accuracy, offering a highly scalable, zero-cost visual tool ideal for future digitization into gamified EdTech applications.
