NIHONGO+
Abstract - Learning the Japanese language is becoming increasingly popular among school students, but the primary challenge faced is memorizing writing systems such as Hiragana, Katakana, and Kanji. Typically, students only learn using textbooks and written notes which can sometimes be difficult to practice in daily conversation. Therefore, I have developed NihonGo+, a mobile application aimed at helping students master the Japanese language more effectively through a more modern and enjoyable approach. The main focus of this project is to build a platform where
students can practice consistently using a 'Daily Missions' and 'XP points' system to maintain their interest every day. Among the interesting features in this application is the 'Digital Chat AI Assistant' which allows students to practice asking questions without feeling embarrassed or afraid of making mistakes. Additionally, we also provide a 'Survival Mode' that helps users practice in real-life situations such as ordering food at a shop or asking for directions while traveling to Japan. This application also features a 'Story Mode' that takes users on an adventure while learning
new words in the correct context. Through testing conducted on a group of schoolmates, we found that they understood and remembered Japanese symbols more easily and quickly when using this application compared to conventional methods. NihonGo+ not only helps students at our school, but it also has great potential to be used by anyone who wants to start learning Japanese independently. We hope this innovation can become a useful learning tool to increase students' confidence in mastering a foreign language and subsequently contribute to the advancement of digital education in Malaysia.
