ST1347: Coco-Smart 360

Muhammad Mahran Bin Annil UiTM

The coconut processing industry constitutes a significant component of Malaysia’s food and agricultural economy, particularly within the small and medium enterprise (SME) sector. Despite its importance, many SMEs continue to depend on conventional manual practices, including cutting, grating, pressing, and waste handling. These methods are not only labour-intensive and time-consuming but also expose workers to potential safety hazards. In addition, such practices often lead to inconsistencies in product quality and contribute to considerable material wastage. Particularly, valuable by-products such as coconut shells and organic residues are frequently discarded, despite their potential to be repurposed into economically beneficial resources. This gap highlights an opportunity for innovation in improving both operational efficiency and resource utilization within the industry.

In response to these challenges, this project introduces Coco-Smart 360, an integrated, all-in-one smart coconut processing system developed using a structured New Product Development (NPD) framework. The proposed system streamlines the entire processing cycle within a single machine, incorporating features such as smart scanning, precision cutting, mechanical grating, coconut milk extraction, coconut water collection, and waste conversion modules. These modules enable the transformation of by-products into value-added outputs such as charcoal and compost, supporting a zero-waste approach.

By enhancing efficiency, ensuring greater workplace safety, improving product consistency, and maximizing material utilization, Coco-Smart 360 presents a practical and sustainable solution. The system demonstrates strong feasibility and market potential, particularly for coconut-based SMEs in Malaysia seeking to modernize operations while embracing environmentally responsible practices.
