Abstract

Flooding poses a serious threat to communities, infrastructure, and the environment. As students of SJK(T) Simpang Lima, we conducted research on flood prevention and developed a comprehensive flood prevention model aimed at reducing flood risks in residential, industrial, and agricultural areas. This project emphasizes both natural and engineered solutions that can be universally applied, particularly in new housing developments.

Our model highlights the importance of forest preservation and proper township planning to enhance natural water absorption and reduce surface runoff. In addition, we propose the implementation of a Flood Detection and Warning System equipped with sensors to monitor rising water levels and activate alarms, automated floodgates, and water diversion mechanisms when danger thresholds are reached. Structural measures such as levees, high walls, reservoirs, containment lakes, and large-scale drainage tunnels are also incorporated to manage excess water efficiently during heavy rainfall.

For existing housing areas, our model focuses on river maintenance through silt dredging to improve water flow and prevent overflow. To promote sustainability, we propose recycling organic silt waste into natural fertilizer, supporting agriculture while reducing environmental impact. Overall, this flood prevention model provides a practical, sustainable, and forward-looking framework that can help protect communities and build resilience against flooding in the future.
