To address the problem of plastic pollution and food waste, this research attempts to produce disposable tableware from waste food i.e. citrus peel fibers bound together using corn or tapioca starch. The methodology includes the stages of boiling and blending orange, lemon or grapefruit peels to a fine pulp, mixing it with a natural adhesive, molding, and drying to obtain strong and fully biodegradable tableware. This advancement takes a step further towards sustainability because it is a better alternative to single use cutlery. As expected, the end product is fully compostable and safe for use for cold or dry food. This approach is new and inexpensive and as such, it can be used by students, DIYers, and even small startups.
