Biocentella edible Smartpack is an edible and biodegradable food packaging developed using agar, glycerin, Centella asiatica extract, and purple cabbage extract as a natural pH indicator. The film changes color in response to pH variations, simulating food spoilage conditions. Under acidic environments (pH 3–4), the film turns reddish-pink, while alkaline conditions (pH 8–9) produce bluish-green tones within seconds. Biodegradation testing showed complete decomposition within 5–7 days, significantly faster than conventional plastic. This study demonstrates the potential of integrating natural chemistry and sustainable materials to create a low-cost, eco-friendly smart packaging alternative for future food systems.
