This innovation is an educational animated video developed to enhance English language learning among Year 5 pupils through the theme of Global Awareness. The project was designed based on the primary school English curriculum and aims to address several learning challenges, including pupils’ declining interest in textbook-based learning, difficulties in retaining new vocabulary, limited exposure to global cultures, and the lack of engaging and interactive learning materials. In addition, many pupils struggle to connect classroom learning with real-life experiences, which affects their motivation and language development.

To overcome these challenges, the innovation integrates digital storytelling, colourful animation, cheerful background music, and context-based vocabulary learning to create a more meaningful and enjoyable learning experience. The animated story follows a character named Aina as she explores Paris, introducing pupils to travel-related vocabulary, cultural elements, and authentic communication contexts. Through a narrative-driven approach, pupils are exposed to language learning in a realistic and engaging environment that encourages active participation and deeper understanding.

The integration of visual, auditory, and contextual learning elements supports vocabulary retention, listening comprehension, pronunciation, and overall language acquisition. The use of storytelling and animation also enables pupils to develop greater curiosity about global cultures while strengthening their communication skills. Findings from the implementation indicated increased pupil motivation, engagement, and confidence in learning English, as well as improved vocabulary mastery and listening skills.

Overall, this innovation demonstrates the potential of educational animation as an effective digital learning tool that transforms conventional language instruction into a more interactive, meaningful, and learner-centred experience. The innovation supports the development of global awareness, language literacy, and 21st-century learning competencies among primary school pupils.
