PR658: FARIS: A Trigger-Based Dynamic Framework For Real-Time Inpatient Fall Risk Detection

Awatif Omar Alhawsawi Independent Researcher

Falls affect up to one million hospitalized patients annually, yet conventional risk tools rely on static scoring and may miss real-time instability. FARIS (Fall-Associated Risk & Instability Screening) is a novel trigger-based dynamic framework addressing this gap. Built on Medications, Clinical interventions, Symptomatic instability, and Urgency — while accounting for contextual vulnerability when clinically relevant — FARIS identifies moment-to-moment instability between routine assessments. A single trigger activates FARIS high-risk status. Designed for ambulatory inpatients, FARIS complements existing tools by targeting the critical window where instability begins but remains undetected, representing a proactive shift toward real-time fall prevention.
