This project EcoScan AI introduces an automated real-time monitoring system designed to promote proper waste disposal and maintain environmental cleanliness. Utilizing a webcam integrated with a custom-trained AI recognition model via the PictoBlox platform, the system specifically targets the issue of littering in the immediate vicinity of refuse containers.
The development process involved supervised learning, where the AI was trained on a diverse dataset to distinguish between properly binned waste and rubbish discarded on the surrounding ground. Once deployed, the system performs continuous computer vision analysis of the target area. Upon detecting an instance of misplaced trash, the system triggers an instantaneous auditory alert. This feedback loop serves as a behavioral nudge, reminding individuals to rectify their disposal actions immediately. By leveraging accessible AI tools and real-time processing, this prototype offers a scalable, cost-effective solution for improving public sanitation habits and reducing the manual labor required for litter collection.
