EcoVend is an innovative smart vending machine designed to address the common issue of students
lacking immediate access to basic stationery, particularly pencils, during school hours. In many schools, students
who forget to bring pencils must either borrow from peers or rely on limited access to school cooperatives. EcoVend
offers a practical, automated solution by enabling students to purchase pencils using coins through a low-cost,
Arduino-based system. The machine integrates piezo sensors to detect and differentiate coin values (10, 20, and 50
cents), an Arduino microcontroller to process inputs, and a servo motor to dispense pencils once sufficient payment
is detected. An LCD display provides real-time feedback to users. The development process involved simulation
using Tinkercad, prototyping, and functionality testing to ensure accuracy in coin detection and dispensing
mechanisms. Results indicate improved accessibility, reduced classroom disruption, and enhanced student
independence. EcoVend also promotes sustainability by encouraging efficient resource use and minimizing reliance
on manual sales systems. This innovation has strong potential for scalability in schools and public learning spaces,
contributing to smart education environments.
