i-Access: Intelligent Inclusive Communication Design Simulator for MICE Events
The "i-Access" project addresses a significant challenge in the Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) industry: ensuring meaningful inclusion for the hard-of-hearing population. Despite growing awareness, current approaches to event accessibility are often reactive, checklist-based, and fail to account for the complex interplay of venue acoustics, technology, and real-time communication delivery. The lack of standard protocols and systematic planning often leads to communication barriers and social exclusion for hearing-impaired individuals. We present "i-Access," a first-of-its-kind web-based intelligent system designed to shift event accessibility planning from reactive to proactive. The core innovation of i-Access is its advanced Simulation Engine, which models the acoustic properties of a venue, simulates potential communication challenges, and generates an objective "Accessibility Score" during the initial planning phase.Based on this data-driven simulation, the system provides a tailored "Smart Recommendation System," offering actionable advice on AV equipment procurement, professional support services (CART, ASL), and staff training. i-Access integrates these technological tools into a five-pillar framework: 1) Accessibility Simulation, 2) Inclusive Communication Design, 3) Smart Recommendation Implementation, 4) Real-Time Captioning & Support, and 5) Continuous Improvement & Global Standards. This cyclical model ensures an "Iterative Optimization Loop," where post-event data refines the simulation engine for future events.
The adoption of i-Access by event organizers, universities, conference planners, and government agencies holds transformative potential. Socially, it guarantees equitable participation and networking opportunities for the hearing-impaired. Within the industry, it creates new quality standards for event planning and delivery. Academically, it introduces a novel framework combining event management, assistive AI, and inclusive design. Nationally, i-Access supports inclusive MICE development, positioning Malaysia as a leader in creating universally accessible professional events.
